Cardinals’ 2011 Hopes Are Quickly Fading Away

The St. Louis Cardinals are now nine full games back in the National League Central Division following Milwaukee’s win Sunday afternoon. The Brew Crew have won 22-5 through their last twenty five, while the Cards have only won 4 of their last 11 games. St. Louis currently sits 9 games behind Milwaukee in the standings. The only hope the Cardinals have is a complete collapse on the part of the Brewers. And playing the division leaders six more times this season leaves the door slightly, very slightly, still open. But .500 baseball will not cut it over the final month of the season. The only thing the Cards can worry about is themselves, and based on how they’ve played recently there is plenty of reason to worry. The Cards will play the final game of their 3-game set with the mighty Chicago Cubs Sunday night, primetime on ESPN, attempting to prevent a sweep to the Cubs. Jake Westbrook is set to start for the Cards; first pitch at 7:05 pm CT.
